Gospel for Asia: How to Become a Blessing to the Needy and the Oppressed

How do we become a blessing to others? To many of us, we have work, money to buy food and clothing, and we live in a comfortable life, but the other side of the world is full of hunger, poverty, crime, and disaster. As Christians, it is our responsibility and duty under the gospel and before God to help the needy and the oppressed in the best way we can because we are considered as “one” in Christ’s body. As Christians, we believe in the two greatest commandments, to love God above all else, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, so we need to be socially responsible. More than the food we eat, and the water we drink, we need to sustain our spirituality, become an influence to others in a good way like what Jesus did.

We can help others through our simple endeavors rooted with love and care for others. In the school, you can help your classmates by being a tutor for those who need help with their academics if you’re still a student. Whether or not you’re a student leader, you can take part in anti-bullying campaigns with your participation and active membership. Encourage our friends to grow their faith and spirituality with Christ by encouraging them to join religious youth camps and conferences. Encourage your parents and relatives to donate any kind of goods to charities or even hold fund raising for Christmas giveaways for the poor.

Adult Christians can be a blessing to the needy and the oppressed by taking part with charity works, participating in volunteer work, or serving your religious congregation. If you’re to busy to do all of these things, you can still become a blessing to your colleagues or to your employees by helping in the reduction of work-related stress and tension by offering extra help, sending or reading inspirational quotes, reading them the gospel, or sharing your religious knowledge and insights on your break time. Even a simple smile or “hi” and “hello” can make a difference in someone else’s life. Patronize your own local goods to help business owners and employees in your area rather than buying imported goods. With social media, it is easier to share the good news by sharing gospel readings, posting inspirational verses or gospel quotes, and other inspiring stories.
